265[name removed by Sirelo] refused to wear a mask, increasing the risk of transmitting Covid. [name removed by Sirelo] had a mask but didn't wear it. We kept our masks on at all times for their protection, given that we have two young children who are unable to be vaccinated.
After running out of boxes, I had to walk to the hardware store and back 4 times (once in the rain) to purchase and carry boxes when my understanding was there would be additional supplies on their truck if we needed them. This meant that [names removed by Sirelo] were not working while I went to get the boxes, neither wrapping or moving items to make future packing easier, but simply waiting until I got back while my wife was still sorting and packing and wrapping items for transit.
I understand that there was only 10 feet of bubble wrap included with package 2, but it was used up before I even arrived on site (I didn't see any) and I didn't realise there wasn't more to use otherwise I would have purchased some during my many visits to the hardware store. My wife suggested using clothes to wrap items but her advice wasn't followed or wasn't understood. The day ended with left over paper for wrapping fragile items in.
This lack of bubble wrap contributed to my main issue: the inadequate packing of our fragile items. I was concerned when moving boxes that I could hear so much clinking and rattling. For international shipping, ideally there is no movement. I opened up a fragile box to take a look. I was horrified by the apparent lack of thought or care that was put into packing our fragile possessions. An entire box of glasses was simply placed inside another box, with no wrapping or padding of any kind. This led me to opening and inspecting all of our fragile boxes and unfortunately, I found a similar level of quality. In many cases, I believe that after shipment we would have opened these boxes to find them full of broken glass.
The job took longer than the estimate and my wife and I spent the next day and a half having to repack almost all of the 50+ boxes (mostly due to fragile items but also due to boxes that were so full of books that they could not be lifted). This led to a very stressful time leading up to the arrival of our shipping container in which I had to buy my own supply of bubble wrap and packing paper and individually wrap up or at least provide some padding to our fragile items, and a few sleepless nights wondering if we would get everything repacked in time. We were only able to make the deadline because we called in friends to help us but I was not able to keep an accurate inventory of the contents of each box.
[name removed by Sirelo] suggested we pay cash to avoid having to pay taxes on the full amount. However, this also means we were not given a receipt or a breakdown of the costs and I assume it is the reason the company did not respond to our complaints.
